Here is the challenge most UAE homeowners face: you buy a smart thermostat like Google Nest or Ecobee, only to discover it cannot communicate with your split AC unit. That is because smart thermostats use 24V signaling, while UAE split ACs use completely different communication protocols (IR remote control signals).
The Dropair adapter solves this. It sits between your smart thermostat and your AC’s indoor unit, translating the thermostat’s commands into signals your air conditioner understands. Think of it as a translator that lets two devices speak the same language.

What exactly does the Dropair adapter do?
The Dropair adapter acts as a translator between your smart thermostat (Nest, Ecobee, or similar) and your split AC unit. Smart thermostats use 24V wiring to send commands, but split ACs in the UAE use IR (infrared) communication. The Dropair bridges this gap by converting the thermostat’s signals into commands your AC understands. Without it, a smart thermostat simply cannot control a split AC.
Do I need a Dropair adapter for my AC?
If you have a wall-mounted split AC unit (the most common type in Dubai apartments), then yes, you almost certainly need a Dropair adapter to use a smart thermostat. If you have a ducted or central AC system with a fan coil unit, you may not need one because these systems often already have 24V wiring. Our technician confirms this during the free site survey.
What is the difference between the Mini6 and Mini6s?
Both serve the same purpose, but the Mini6s is the newer model with improved compatibility across a wider range of AC brands and more reliable signal processing. If your AC is a recent model (2020 or newer), the Mini6s tends to be the better fit. For older ACs, the standard Mini6 works perfectly well. Our technician recommends the right one based on your specific unit.
Which AC brands does Dropair work with?
The Dropair adapter supports over 50 AC brands including Samsung, LG, Gree, Midea, Daikin, Carrier, Chigo, TCL, Haier, Hisense, Panasonic, Toshiba, and many others. It covers the vast majority of split AC units sold in the UAE. For O’General and Fujitsu branded AC units, we use the Fujitsu UTY-TTRX converter instead. Our technician verifies compatibility during the site survey.
Can I install the Dropair adapter myself?
We strongly advise against DIY installation. The Dropair adapter connects inside your AC’s indoor unit, which means opening the panel and wiring into the PCB control board. Incorrect wiring can damage both the adapter and your air conditioner. Professional installation ensures everything is connected safely and tested thoroughly before handoff.
How long does installation take?
A standard Dropair adapter installation takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. This includes inspecting your AC, opening the indoor unit, wiring the adapter, connecting the thermostat, configuring the app, and running a full cooling cycle test.
I have an O'General AC. Can I use Dropair?
O’General (Fujitsu) AC units require a different adapter: the Fujitsu UTY-TTRX converter. This converter is specifically designed for the Fujitsu communication protocol used by O’General units. Does the Dropair adapter affect my AC warranty?
The Dropair adapter connects to the AC’s control board using standard wiring connections and does not modify the unit’s internal components. In most cases, it does not void your AC warranty. However, we recommend checking your specific AC manufacturer’s warranty terms. If you ever need to remove the adapter (for example, when moving out of a rental), the AC returns to its original state with no permanent changes.
Do you install Dropair adapters outside Dubai?
Yes. We provide Dropair installation across all seven emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah. Dubai installations are typically scheduled within 2 to 3 days. Other emirates get same week scheduling.
